David Fiel

I’m happily married to my wife, Carol, and we have six great kids with four of them still in school, along with a 140 lb. Great Dane. Life certainly isn’t simple, but then I bet your life has challenges as well! After decades as a software engineer, I’ve decided to leverage my extensive range as a handyman to help make your world better.

Experienced

Over the years, we have lived in several vintage homes including our current house in Cincinnati. I have completed many ambitious renovations including, but not limited to:

  • Rebuilding a termite-eaten second-floor deck which involved replacing a beam and posts along with waterproof flooring to keep the vermin from returning.
  • Upgrading the house’s electrical service from 200 to 400 amps complete with a new meter enclosure, dual main panels, a rewired 40-breaker subpanel, and 500 feet of ditching to the power pole. All this passed on the first try with praise from the inspector.
  • Designing and building a whole-house, underslab radon abatement system that reduced the carcinogen from 36 pC/l down to the recommended limit of 4.

At this point, I am focusing on smaller jobs. But you can rest assured in the deep understanding that I bring to your projects.

Technical

After growing up in Morehead, KY, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor’s of Engineering in computer science, electrical engineering, and math. And I really enjoyed my years working at FedEx, Remedy, and BMC Software. But now I’m excited to be free of the corporate world, so that I can bring my technical knowledge to improve your computer, home automation, and entertainment systems.

Catholic

My faith is very important to me, so much so that I am studying to become a deacon. Our family already helps the Church in many ways including singing, lectoring, and altar serving. But don’t worry, I’m not going to preach at you or leave Bible tracts around your house.

Helpful

I’m very grateful for my years in scouting both as a kid and as a leader, especially the great times hiking and camping in our wonderful forests. The playground that we restored and improved for my Eagle Scout project has long since been upgraded to be an even more fun place, but the lessons about the importance of making the effort to serve our community are still with me. And I still fit in my old uniform!
